Tottenham boss Conte insists no-one has clipped his wings: Ask the fourth official if I'm more calm!

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte says defender Eric Dier will be unavailable for the North London derby with Arsenal.

Spurs will host Arsenal on Sunday.

“With Eric Dier, he is suffering a little muscular problem and he’s not fit for the game against Arsenal,” said Conte.

“It’s a pity we have to play these three games before the international break and then recover these important players. It’s important to recover these important players.

“We have many injuries and then there is also the covid situation that you have to check every day and sometimes you find a surprise. We are preparing for the game against Arsenal. All teams are suffering at the moment.”

Asked if he has appeared more subdued on the touchline in recent games, Conte said: “I don’t think so. You have to ask the referee or fourth official if I was calm against Chelsea.

“He would be surprised by this question. For sure, also during my management I have to try and also to see when I stay calm. I think this is also a strategy.

“I can drive the car but sometimes the driver can stay seated and calm. It’s part of process to give more responsibility to my players.

“If I want to force myself to live the game in another way, it’ll be very difficult. But sometimes I have to stay seated and leave my players to make the best decision and face the game during the difficulties.

“It’s part of the process to improve their responsibility during the game. For sure, I’m very strong and I’ll be very strong towards the end of the season.”
