Rodgers: Leicester struggles hurting Maddison

Brendan Rodgers has admitted Leicester City’s early season problems have hindered James Maddison’s England chances.

The attacking midfielder was left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.

Rodgers said: “He’s a very, very talented player but there are a number of players in a similar position. Our start hasn’t helped him, but saying that, when we were at the top of the league challenging and winning things, he wasn’t in it either.

“Gareth will probably have in his mind the squad he wants to take and he will look at that for these games. Other than that, barring an injury, it might be difficult for other players to break in.

“James can just concentrate on what he’s doing here, and play to the highest level he possibly can. He’s shown consistency over a number of months now and he’s very unfortunate.”
