PSV Eindhoven director of football Marcel Brands admits Manchester United unsettled Cody Gakpo over the summer.
Gakpo was a transfer target for the Reds in the summer transfer window, but a move failed to materialise as Erik ten Hag focused on securing Antony from Ajax.
Despite the forward registering nine goals and six assists in 12 games so far this season, Brands claims that United’s interest in the forward impacted his pre-season preparations.
Brands said: “Cody had a difficult preparation with us because he spoke to Manchester United. They only came in mid-August and didn’t pick up.
“I even think Cody would not have left at the end of the transfer period if the right amount had been offered. There was no offer that approached the lower limit of what we agreed with Cody.”
