Newcastle midfielder Guimaraes: Howe has turned water into wine here

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has hailed the impact of manager Eddie Howe.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, Guimaraes said Howe has “turned water into wine” in “bringing a winning mentality to the club” as the side look to push on under their new ownership.

“I’m enjoying working with him, I really am,” he said. “And not only as a coach but as a person.

“I admire the way he manages the whole group. He has a very human side with everyone.

“He’s turned water into wine here, leading a team that many saw as virtually relegated to the middle of the table. He’s bringing a winning mentality to the club – crucial when you have such a big project.

“He would come to me and ask: ‘Where do you prefer to play? Here? There? OK. What’s your favourite role on the pitch? I want to help you adjust to my playing style but you have your own characteristics too – where do you think you can help me most?'”
