Newcastle boss Howe eases Wilson injury concerns

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has allayed any injury worries regarding striker Callum Wilson.

The Magpies attacker is in the England squad for the World Cup in Qatar this month.

Wilson was not a starter for Newcastle during their 1-0 Premier League win over Chelsea at the weekend, with Chris Wood starting up front.

“Callum is fine,” said Howe.

“It was just a case that, with the training he’s had, I didn’t feel he was ready to start the game.

“He’s had an illness that really knocked him, so we didn’t want to take the risk with his immune system being low.

“We knew he would be okay for a part of the game because he’s fully fit now, with no problems.”
