Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher admits he rates Newcastle fullback Kieran Trippier ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Carragher can not see Alexander-Arnold starting for England at the World Cup if Trippier stays fit. The Liverpool full-back’s place in the squad for the upcoming tournament in Qatar has been the subject of debate in recent weeks.
Asked about the Liverpool defender, Carragher told Sky Sports: “His situation is helped by the injuries to Kyle Walker and Reece James, and I think if those two players are out he’s obviously a cert to go in the squad. I still think he’ll find it really difficult to get into the team.
“I think Kieran Trippier would be ahead of him in Gareth Southgate’s eyes. I think if you take one of Walker or James, there’s still enough room for Trent to go.
“But I think if those two players miraculously made themselves fit or Southgate wanted to take a chance or a risk with their fitness, it maybe difficult for Trent in terms of making the squad. I don’t see him making the team if Trippier stays fit, I think it all hinges on how Gareth sees those injuries.”
