Chelsea begin talks with RB Salzburg whiz Freund for sporting director role

Chelsea are set for talks with RB Salzburg executive Christoph Freund regarding their vacant sporting director role.

The Blues were hoping to snag ex-Liverpool man Martin Edwards, but he appears to have put himself out of the running for the post.

According to Evening Standard, the Blues are very close to appointing Freund in the job.

The two clubs are facing off in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, in what is new Blues boss Graham Potter’s first game in charge.

But it appears that Freund could be switching sides in the near future, as he is being tapped up by Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly.

The latter served as the Blues’ de facto director of football this summer, but wants someone with more experience in the role as soon as possible.
