Jan Bednarek has revealed he joined Aston Villa to bolster his World Cup hopes.
The Poland international left Southampton for Villa on loan during the summer window.
Bednarek had the choice between Villa and West Ham and decided on the former due to an increased chance of playing time.
He told the Express & Star: “It’s important for me because we have a World Cup coming up soon, at the end of November.
“Of course, there’s big competition in the team, a lot of good players. But I know what I have to do to be in the starting XI.
“At this level there is competition in every team in the league. I am pretty convinced I can get a spot in the starting XI, hopefully it will happen as soon as possible.”
