Bayern Munich president Hainer: We tried to sign Haaland ahead of Man City

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer admits they tried to sign Erling Haaland over the summer.

Many at Bayern have denied competing for the Norway striker as he was leaving Borussia Dortmund, but that has since been contradicted by Hainer.

He said of the Manchester City star: “Haaland is interesting for all the top clubs in the world.

“And we had the best chance of signing him alongside Manchester City…”

Bayern remain eager to find a new centre-forward after Robert Lewandowski’s departure for Barcelona.
